A Light Installation

Emulate the Fifties with a Bingo-Inspired Light Installation
The Fifties: the time of rock-n-roll, Doo Wop, Pop Art and Abstract
Expressionism. It was a glamorous, fun, and fearless decade for art, and it
was when people began trying to move against established constructs and
trying to explore their own talents.

If you want to emulate this great decade, you could create a light
installation inspired by one of the biggest games of the decade: bingo.
While the game saw its popularity whittling down by the 60s, it’s seen a
resurgence like no other in the past few years, thanks to advances in
technology and the internet. In the UK, where bingo has seen much of its
renewed audience, the BBC reports that the 20 online bingo portals in 2004 had grown to over 350 in 2013, and with software like the Virtue Fusion platform, which was adapted
and popularized by Betfair when they launched their bingo portal in 2013, more and more sites are being developed and launched. This makes bingo an easy avenue to bring your
Fifties style into the modern age.

This bingo light installation is inspired by Progress Lighting’s Bingo collection. The lighting collection makes use of the images that are recurring in the game of bingo: circular shapes that remind one of the bingo balls that have made the game so popular, and thick
outlines that bring to mind the lines of bingo cards. To create your own
bingo-inspired light installation, all you need are round LED panel lights,
as well as other round objects like plates and mirrors. Try to find something like the round LED panel lights offered by Powertech, as these have the thick border that we are looking for.

To start setting up your installation, lay down the lights and begin
arranging the other round objects around them, similar to how you’d create
a plate wall. Use varied sizes of plates and mirrors and lights to create a
spontaneous feel. You could also wrap some of the plates in different paper
to create more variety, or paint over the borders of the LED panel lights.
