Black and White Frames

This winter, I will be using a lot of black and white to accent my space. I think these two classic colors are easy to mix and if you love modernism then they often provide that clean classic sentiment.

Here is another work in progress, a white frame soon-to-be pin board for my storefront.

Curious how it looked before?

I really like the contrast that the burnished gold had before. I may dab in warm silver metallic paint into the crevices of the white frame,

For this pinboard, I use a large French style museum frame with ornate floral carvings. It was originally in white.

My client preferred it in black to better match the dark wood where it will be used in her kitchen. I’m curious which color to you prefer?

I think I like the white on the dark wall, but imagine the black will look sharp in a tiled kitchen, with walnut wood.

I have some exciting posts planned for next week~looking forward to the weekend, anyone? I really want to see Anna Karenina…who’s with me?

What are you conjuring up this weekend?

Shop Photo Friday

I am feeling exuberant about my product photo shoot last weekend. Although, I usually prefer to work with photographers, sometimes it’s necessary to get creative with styling and work up a little photo shoot on your own spur of the moment. Here are the results of my playing around in my studio last weekend.

I’ve taken a bit of good advice from a friend to hone in on my PInk Pianos style story. It’s been fun to think about what I love about design. Global accents like this pillows are one example.

I often focus on the details…so knobs and hardware are small accents that feel important in designing a piece of furniture.

Another aspect of having a design studio that I love is creating products that I would want to own. These Belgian Linen Gallery style frames are something I plan to create more of as I develop my decor line.

Last but not last, I’m excited to share with you this vintage modern accent chair. Finding the great vintage shapes and pairing them with modern fabric is the genuinely exciting for me.

I hope you have found my photos and thoughts on shop ownership interesting. Enough about me, I would love to hear from some of you about your Journey with product development. How do you find inspiration?..and how have you developed your brand and style? If you would like to be considered for a Friday feature please contact me. I’d love to bring new designers to the attention and benefit of us all!

Butterfly Art

It’s been quite a busy week, but there is a new print in my shop!

And I couldn’t resist sharing a link to the glowhouses, that I made at Edy’s bridal shower. They will be the centerpieces for her upcoming wedding. All the ladies had a beautiful day sculpting these, and I can’t wait to see the finished product once it is glazed and kiln fired.

Handmade goodness

Spending Friday at the Claremont Green Market with friends MissD and Martin was so spectacular that it inspired me to revamp and recreate a few of my handmade items. The evening was warm and breezy and the proximity of Claremont to the mountains was awe inspiring. Here are a list of handmade goodies that I’ve felt the urge to recreate and recycle over this past weekend.

Later on this week, I promise to teach you how to build a custom frame. I just learned myself and have started to perfect the art;)

Graphic Inspiration

I was a little thrilled when I came across this designer on the front page of Etsy last week. FreyaArt creates these wondrous and colorful prints for the home.

This artwork clearly describes how I like to feel at heart.

Wouldn’t this make sweet decor for a child’s room?

The colors in this one POP! I’ll bet you have a few strange and magnificent creatures in your life!

Hope your week  is off to a vibrant start!

Facelift: Pink Pianos chair

If you stop by often then you know how I love found objects and a good facelift.

I dug this black and white fabric that I am storing in my garage for a client. I decided to use a pinch of it to recover this sturdy wooden frame. It was missing a seat, so I simply traced the shape onto plywood then cut a new one. Luckily, I had some extra foam and batting to pad it and make it plenty comfy. I chose the glossy black paint to add a modern feel to the retro plaid. For now, she’s sitting pretty in my shop.

Make sure to stop by Wednesday, when I’ll announce the 1-year blogaversary giveaway.

It’s already June, 1 year, and time to celebrate!
