Woodland Round-Up!

This weekend in Los Angeles was a cozy one for me. The drizzle of the rain, a rarity, in sunny L.A. helped me to focus on taking creative photos inside my studio this weekend.

For my Etsy shop, I have been getting into the gift giving spirit, bookmarking all the great finds out there on Etsy and tailoring my collection for the holiday season. My goal this season is to hand make as many presents as I possibly can and support other hand made artists in the process.

These gift tags are in candy cane colors and are large enough to write a note on the bag of each card.

This next set of photos takes on a woodsy feeling. I love going up to the mountains near the edge of the city and camping in the summertime. These earrings, paintings, and pillow are inspired by those adventures.

These children’s cloth napkin idea came to me on Friday, while I was working with some of the young aritsts that I teach. The cute Montessori school had adorable reusable cloth napkins that I saw folded neatly into a basket. I plan to make them a gift of these holiday napkins, with hand printed silver doves.

I am so grateful for each and every one of one.

I promise more fun surprises and gift ideas in the weeks to some.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Gratitude + Those who Inspire Us

I can’t help but feel a certain indebtedness and gratitude to others who inspire me around the web.

On days, weeks even, when the writer’s block is setting in, I look to others around the world for inspiration. I thought I would spread the link love and all that has kept me moving forward this week.

I found a fun rainy day activity to do with a friend or significant other over at Cherishing hopes and dreams. It’s always entertaining to find out more about your closest friends and loved ones.

Which brings me to part 2, lately, I have felt compelled to begin journaling and art journaling at that. There is the ever famous, Sketchbook Project. I’m curious, are any of you already participating in this? If so, how have you grown from it?

One of my clients has been writing down her goals and photographing them as she accomplishes one after the next. I love this concept as a source of encouragement and a way to set benchmarks for personal success.

The next one is yummy! Ever since my trip to Chicago, I have been on a healthy eating kick due to the fact that my husband and I calculated our BMI at a local CVS there. When I found Green Plate Rule with it’s recipes and healthy food ideas, I knew I wanted to try this.

This morning, I felt inspired to focus on craftsmanship more than ever after reading about the this shop Art & Manufacture.

If you still haven’t seen enough of all the handmade goodness that is out there these days. Here is a treasury of My Favorite Things that I curated to express my thanks to all the artisans designing objects by hand. (I’m going to bookmark this one for my future holiday shopping)

I hope you all have enjoyed these links, as much as I have. Next week, I am going to show you 2 new chairs that I am reupholstering, along with a link to an article I am writing for a new lifestyle blog.

Happy Friday friends!

xx

Autumn Inspiration + Bedroom Progress

Last weekend, we took a trip to the mountains with our friends Jess, Agke and Thurston. They showed us the perfect picnic spot on Mt. Baldy, the highest peak in the San Gabriel mountain range. Sometimes, I forget how lucky I was to have lived a stone’s throw away from this great mountain. Now, the 50 minute drive to the mountain on the weekends comes as a welcome respite.

I soaked in the gully of birch trees.

The leaves on the trees were just starting to change and the air was crisp and cool. I got so inspired to paint and finish an outdoorsy drawing, which I will add to my shop this week.

Next, I was hunting for florals for my client’s bedrroom, I came across beautiful purples and a fiery autumn orange.

Rolling Greens in Los Angeles, is simply my favorite place within the city to gather beautiful florals, real and silk. For the bedroom. we have decided on the faux variety….dirt and bugs in the bedroom, no thank you!

I liked the way they arranged the succelents that I picked out for this planter, the visual texture is looks great next to the window seat.

The bedroom is almost there and we are so proud! We will soon replace the silver lamps with bronze sconces and picture lighting and drumroll…a rococo chandelier. We went with the light nightstands as voted for by many of you. You can find out more about the evolution of the design here.

Again, your comments mean so much to me and I just love hearing about what projects are on the horizon for you. I will leave you a with a gorgeous shot of Santa Monica Beach sunset. I’m just luvin’ the purple and orange hues.

Wednesday Mood Boards

This is one project that I am really looking forward to. It is the initial design concept for a holistic spa and medical lobby. I am working with a clean palette and shades of natural healthy feeling greens.I am loving the lace pendant that is on sale at Crate and Barrel for this space. It is so soft and elegant. Although, this is just the beginning and a lot could change within this calming and refreshing space.

In contrast to the board above, here is another source of modern classic and slightly more dramatic inspiration. We are working very hard to create a cozy bedroom using many textures and finishes together, such as combining matte black lamps and little pops of brass. Best of all, the art is on it’s way!!!…and I will have a picture soon of an Ethiopian necklace made from nickel in a gorgeous burl wood shadowbox frame. The art will be placed in a vignette with the scone above the nightstand.

I’m liking the shades of gray with the dramatic bursts of purple too! We are still debating the lighting, so I took lots of pictures today at Rejuventation. Shall I share my photostream of goodies later in the week?  How about you, any projects around the house or great shopping that you are into??

Postcard from Kentucky

I spent many sunny warm days in Kentucky. Here is a picture from my favorite park.

Today, I’m back to my studio in California from my beautiful trip to Kentucky. This week I will be sharing an Inspiration board from a bedroom that I am designing. It looks like this week in studio I will have my work cut out for me.
