Mary Anna’s Refresh

I am in the midst of refreshing Mary Anna’s home and we are having an amazing time! One goal was to reupholster the living room sofas, chairs, and window seats around the house. I wanted to share with you the progress so far. Here’s a close-up of the new throw pillows.

One thing I appreciate about the feel of this home is how comfortable everything looks and feels.

The guest room also evokes a peaceful feeling. Here you can see the new slipcover and throw pillows I had made from a new line of eco friendly organic fabrics!

The remainder of the day looks busy and I’m looking forward to it! I hope you all are off to a great beginning of the week.

Mary Anna’s Front Porch

I’m loving how it’s all coming together at Mary Anna’s front porch. We are going with crisp white and gray two of my favorites colors. The gray chevron will cover the seat of the wicker armchair and we will do two solid gray Sunbrella pillows for the all white bench!

I can’t wait to start shopping. I’m planning a trip to Rolling Greens, one of my favorites for planters+ indoor/outdoor accessories.  Have a great weekend, everybody!

Special surprise: It’s a boy!

Today we are so happy to finally share our news with you!

Although, I have kept the baby bump photos and pregnancy posts to a minimum, I can truly say that the path to Motherhood for me has been mostly smooth.

I have really enjoyed pregnancy and the support of family, friends, and neighbors has been astonishing to me. It seems everywhere I go, I meet other parents and we share a common bond that I hadn’t felt before.

From the laid back baby shower which was hosted by good friends…

Catered by local restaurants Joan’s on Third with yummy tarts from Amandine, a French bakery on the westside…

To the beautiful view from the delivery room the day that I gave birth.

It is even more appropriate that I introduce you to Neel Sky Vaid. Neel means blue in Hindi…Could the view of the sky from the window have been any more perfect?

Neel was born on May 7 and every day since that day the world seems brighter and more joyful to me.

Here are a few photos of him at 1 week old.

I find myself humming these Stevie Wonder lyrics to him as he wakes up:
“You are the sunshine of my life, that’s why I’ll always stay around,
You are the apple of my eye, forever you’ll stay in my heart…”

I find him changing day by day and I was inspired by the words found in Joanna’s tips on Motherhood to savor these moments.

“Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart. Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow. Let me hold you while I may, for it may not always be so. One day I shall dig my nails into the earth, or bury my face in the pillow, or stretch myself taut, or raise my hands to the sky and want, more than all the world, your return.”

~poem by Mary Jean Irion.

These small moments are making each day special.

I have found these writers resonate even more now that I too have a little one. If you are a Mom like me, you may also enjoy:

Jen’s creative projects and admire how she’s making it all happen with 2 kiddos.

The cute pictures and anecdotes that Joy shares about her daughter

I hope you have enjoyed the long, sweet, weekend! We took the opportunity to get outside and soak in the nice weather.

Tomorrow, I am looking forward to showing you how I updated a Master Closet on a simple budget.

Lighting Installation + Styling

The holidays are fast approaching and I have many exciting projects to share:

A DIY of this chair (restyled below) over at the awesome Canadian blog the Purple Fig. I created this step by step how to.

I also like this photo for something else…maybe a new banner…hint, hint;)

The past weekend was chock full of installations and ultimate satisfaction. I worked on the final lighting install of tranquil spacious bedroom. Adding a chandelier in the center of the room created a focal point and brightened the space.

In addition to this, we swapped out the Robert Abbey lamps above for cool 1920s style torpedo sconces. I still love the Rbert Abbey lamp base, but the shade needed to give off more light or be changed. The new sconces provide directional light for reading.

You can see more detailed view of this Residential Transformation that I have been working on all year.

Next, if you can believe it, I worked on yet another install this weekend. We completed the modern reception desk installation on Saturday. We got creative by reusing an existing piece of IKEA furniture and gave it an upgrade by customizing a facade for it. I’m liking the white for now, but I could also see it painted in gray in a few months.

Which color do you vote for the Reception Desk?

Happy Wednesday!

Autumn Inspiration + Bedroom Progress

Last weekend, we took a trip to the mountains with our friends Jess, Agke and Thurston. They showed us the perfect picnic spot on Mt. Baldy, the highest peak in the San Gabriel mountain range. Sometimes, I forget how lucky I was to have lived a stone’s throw away from this great mountain. Now, the 50 minute drive to the mountain on the weekends comes as a welcome respite.

I soaked in the gully of birch trees.

The leaves on the trees were just starting to change and the air was crisp and cool. I got so inspired to paint and finish an outdoorsy drawing, which I will add to my shop this week.

Next, I was hunting for florals for my client’s bedrroom, I came across beautiful purples and a fiery autumn orange.

Rolling Greens in Los Angeles, is simply my favorite place within the city to gather beautiful florals, real and silk. For the bedroom. we have decided on the faux variety….dirt and bugs in the bedroom, no thank you!

I liked the way they arranged the succelents that I picked out for this planter, the visual texture is looks great next to the window seat.

The bedroom is almost there and we are so proud! We will soon replace the silver lamps with bronze sconces and picture lighting and drumroll…a rococo chandelier. We went with the light nightstands as voted for by many of you. You can find out more about the evolution of the design here.

Again, your comments mean so much to me and I just love hearing about what projects are on the horizon for you. I will leave you a with a gorgeous shot of Santa Monica Beach sunset. I’m just luvin’ the purple and orange hues.

Restoration Bedroom Design

Here is a glimpse at a bedroom refresh that I am working on. First, we switched out the headboard and updated the bedding, but we weren’t ready to stop there… Although, we started out with the idea to do a quick update, the design has evolved to include new sconces, a chandelier, custom art, pillows and new bedside tables. I can’t wait for you to see the final pictures of the restyle! Here are the original bedside sconces we were considering…Can you guess which sconce we went crazy for??

Ok, I will tell you…the last one, bottom right;) You may remember the original mood board, well…here is the newest product board, which combination of lighting and nightstands, do you like best? A or B?
